Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use in Tales of Zalanthas:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use in Tales of Zalanthas:

Our stance on AI usage is:

  • We do not want coders to be hands-off and fully use AI, bur rather use it as a coding assistant if they want. AI is fantastic at helping speed up work, doing mundane tasks, acting as a second pair of (fake) eyes to look over your work, and helping to write tests. But the human needs to be the architect, the guide, the decision-maker, and the troubleshooter. Coders are expected to understand the code and their work.
  • We will not use any AI in the creative content within the game. This means that all room descriptions, NPC's, items, scripted conversations, and the like, are expected to be created and edited solely by a human. QC will also be performed by a human; we would also expect player and builder submissions to follow a similar mentality.
  • If we write a narrative story/blurb, we will not use AI to write the content of the story.
  • We will not use AI generated images or artwork on our primary website when we launch it, but rather will look for and/or solicit community-created content.
  • Our devblog (this site) is meant to be an informal way for us to communicate about the progress of our game. We will have no restriction on the use of AI generated images here, unless we find community-created content instead and will prioritize that. Any AI generated content / images we use will have a disclaimer that it was AI generated (See the above Mantis Image at the top of this post). We may use AI to help summarize a post or ideas to get into a devblog post.

In short, we will not replace human imagination and innovation with AI, but rather use it to make some repetitive and utility tasks easier, so that we can focus on the more creative aspects of the game.
